Len worked with a number of different mediums throughout his life.

Copper seems to have been one of his favourites. He made a number of

works like the one above with copper and cane, as well as trays and

lamp holders.

Pottery also took his interest for a number of years before going overseas.

There was a potting wheel in the porch of the Hataitai home, and he built

an oil fired kiln in the back yard. The family has little of this pottery today

as most was made to be used and has broken over the years. All of Len's
pottery work was made for family, or given away to friends, none was ever sold.

April 10th, 1968, during cyclone "Giselle",

the Wahine hit rocks at the entrance to Wellington Harbour.

She is seen here off Seatoun Beach, where she sunk with the lost of 51 lifes.

This painting was reproduced as a limited edition print.

In October 2009 Tarlia, one of Len's great-granddaughers,

was presented with a certificate for her work 'Family Treasures'.

The homework project was part of an intermediate school competition

in Wanganui, and Tarlia's work featuring one of Len's sketchbooks

was one selected out of 600 entries for an award.

As part of the award her project and the sketchbook will be

on display in the Wanganui Museum until May 2010.
